ENDS (make 2)
With size 7 needles and Lemonade, cast on 25 stitches and work 4 rows in garter stitch. Then work in stockinette stitch until the piece measures 3½ inches from the beginning. End with a right side row. Work 5 rows in garter stitch. Bind off all stitches.
FRONT AND BACK (work the same for both)
With size 7 needles and Lemonade, cast on 35 stitches. Work as for the ends.
Sew the four sides together using mattress stitch to form a rectangular box.
TOP PIECES (make 2)
With size 7 needles and Lemonade, cast on 5 stitches. Work in garter stitch until the strap measures 4 inches. Bind off.
Sew the pieces on the top of the box on either side of the pop-up top. Sew the side of the piece to the end of the box and the cast-on edge and bound-off edge to the front and back of the box.
WOVEN DOTS (see photo below)
These embellishments are worked freehand. With the crochet hook, yarn needle, and Honeydew, Tulip, Sky, and Azul, embroider the dots in various sizes around the four sides, following the instructions on page 160.
Create as many dots as you desire on each side. The sample has five dots on the front and back, and two dots on each of the ends.
POM-POMS (make 18)
Make four 2-inch pom-poms with 40 wraps in Tulip, Honeydew, and Azul, following the instructions on page 152. Make six pom-poms in Sky. Attach four pom-poms, one of each color, on both sides of the box along the top seams. Attach five pom-poms, one of each color and an extra one in Sky, along the front and back of the box just below the garter stitch border. Attach by pulling the long ends from the pompom tie through to the wrong side and tying a knot. Trim all ends.
